Springfield school board members are still discussing altering the calendar and now are considering an early dismissal time one day a week after meeting with parents.
No action was taken but board member Mike Zimmers says the board needs to make a decision now.
“Having been there and done that, if we aren’t going to do this from day one we need to wait until the next year. It just terrible to start something in the middle of the school year. Its just too disruptive” Zimmers says.
Board member Scott McFarland says he doesn’t believe enough input has been invited from parents.
“I’m happy there was a meeting with certain parents but that was an ‘invite-only’ meeting which concerns me in the fact that we need a meeting with the entire community” says McFarland.
The extra hour would be used for teacher collaboration. Details would still need to be worked out with transportation and after-school activities.
