The U.S. Department of Education is investigating allegations of sex discrimination at Knox College in western Illinois.

Knox President Teresa Amott said in a campus-wide email Wednesday that the investigation began in January.

It involves a report of alleged sexual misconduct from October, though the email gave no details. College spokeswoman Megan Scott said she could not reveal specifics. Officials with the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights will visit the Galesburg campus the week of May 19 to interview students.

Knox is one of 55 colleges and universities across the nation being investigated.
