Springfield Mayor Mike Houston says he’s reached out to NAPA Auto Parts to mutually cancel the three year, $3.75 million contract to manage auto parts in the city’s consolidated garage.

The mayor, in a letter to aldermen, said the contract for the parts store will go through the city’s standard bidding process. Requests for Proposals will be sought.

The contract was under fire almost from the beginning, but recently the city attorney’s office said mistakes were made, and the process by which the contract was procured was illegal. A measure to reaffirm the contract had a first reading Tuesday night, so it will still get discussion next week.
