Property taxes in Sherman are going down.
Mayor Trevor Clatfelter says the village just paid off a bond, which made its line item on recently issued property tax bills go down 66 percent. The Sherman line item accounts for nearly one percent of the total bill.
“We’re looking at the cost of replacing various roads,” says Clatfelter, noting that future bond issues can’t be ruled out entirely. “We’re formulating the current budget right now, we’re looking at what revenues can be dedicated to that.”
Clatfelter says the village’s portion of a tax bill for a $241,000, for example, is now less than $50. Those bills were just issued and the first portion is coming due early next month.
