Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) is the first woman to be elected to one of the four positions of legislative leader in Illinois. She is the minority leader in the state senate.
In a committee hearing Wednesday, she put herself in the position of voting for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in Illinois while attacking the motives of its campaign.
More than thirty years after the national effort sputtered out, ten days before the end of the spring legislative session, during a contentious gubernatorial election year, she suggested Gov. Pat Quinn is the one pulling the strings.
“If I were him,” says Radogno, “I’d want to pursue something like this as well, to get the focus off my record of the financial management (and) the federal investigation going on.”
Radogno called the ERA movement “a clear deflection” but voted with the majority.
SJRCA 75 has passed the Senate Executive Committee.
