The chairman of an advisory board to the Lincoln Presidential Library says creating a stand-alone agency to run the Springfield-based site is a good idea. Advisory board chairman Steven Beckett says he wrote the first draft of a measure to create an independent state agency to oversee the Lincoln library and museum. Beckett says the new agency would streamline hiring and collection acquisition.

The measure would transfer authority from the Historic Preservation Agency, creating a new agency with its own executive director.

Governor Pat Quinn spokesman David Blanchette tells The Associated Press the governor’s office “welcomes the policy discussion” the legislation will generate and is interested to see what legislators have to say.
