Several departments responded to a water rescue along the Sangamon River Thursday afternoon, no one was injured and everyone got out of the water safe.

Sangamon County Sheriff Neil Williamson says the call for help came around 1:20. A group of kayakers  traversing the Sangamon River north of Springfield when one overturned.  The two were able to grab onto an overhanging tree limb as  others called 9-1-1

A passing civilian boater was able too rescue the two before an emergency crew arrived.

Crews from the Springfield and Riverton Fire Departments, Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police responded.
