Surrounded by family and friends at his boyhood home on South Whittier, City Treasurer Jim Langfelder tossed his hat into the 2015 race for mayor of Springfield.
Langfelder, who has been elected city treasurer for three consecutive terms, is running on a platform of doing what is best for Springfield, by using the traits of “volunteerism, decisiveness, hard work, the value of education, perseverance, and humility”.
He used the occasion of his father’s birthday to announce his run. Langfelder’s father is former Springfield Mayor Ozzie Langfelder, who turned 88.
Another mayoral candidate, Paul Palazzolo, was also on hand for the announcement. His campaign issued a written statement asking what Langfelder has done to “earn his father’s office”. Palazzolo also said in the statement that “Langfelder lacks the fresh, new leadership and vision the City of Springfield desperately needs”.
