It’s news when there’s an accident, so the state’s labor inspectors and carnival ride vendor are hoping to stay out of the news during the Illinois State Fair.

“We inspect all traveling amusement rides,” says Ryan Culton, manager of the amusement ride safety division for the Illinois Department of Labor. “Anything from Great America Six Flags, to both state fairs, there are 102 county fairs, fixed zip lines, mobile zip lines.”

North American Midway Entertainment is back at the fair. Spokeswoman Amy Girton says the new attraction this year is the Persian Camel.

“It’s a new funhouse that’s redone. It’s absolutely gorgeous, new lights on it, all new vinyl.” She says it’s a walk-through funhouse for all ages.

The state fair’s preview night and Twilight Parade get underway Thursday night; it runs through Sunday August 17.
