Even though the number of fatalities from crashes involving someone under the influence is dropping, Springfield Police Sergeant Charles Kean says one arrest is too many.
Law enforcement agencies around the state are again stepping up patrols for the Labor Day weekend. Kean says police have largely eliminated one word from their vocabulary.
“We don’t call them accidents, we call them crashes. Because it is not an accident, you don’t accidentally drink to the point of intoxication, you don’t accidently get behind the wheel. These are decisions that are consciously made,” Kean says.
Kean says police will also be enforcing seat belt laws and looking for those using their cell phones while driving.
