A long-time elected official to the Prairie Capital Convention Center Board of Directors is now setting his sights on a seat on the Springfield City Council.
Tony Smarjesse says he is running for the Ward 9 seat being vacated by incumbent Steve Dove. He is beginning his campaign by offering donuts, coffee and, an ear to constituents.
“Starting this month, every third Saturday from 8 until 10 in the morning, I will be holding meet-and-greet sessions at the Mel-o-Cream in Fairhills Mall to meet people in person that I miss when I am walking the neighborhood,” says Smarjesse.
Smarjesse was appointed to the council on an interim basis when Alderman Frank Edwards became acting mayor and Dove took on the role of mayoral assistant following the death of Tim Davlin.
He says will no longer serve on the Convention Center’s board if he is elected next May.
