It appears the Springfield School District and the teacher’s union have struck a tentative one year deal on a new contract.
It provides for a $500 increase in pay for the 2014-2015 school year but not much else. Springfield Education Association President Crysta Weitekamp says uncertainty with state funding has dictated a year-to-year contract.
“It was very cooperative (with the school board). I think they really respected the teachers which we haven’t always felt in the past. They worked with us,” Weitekamp says when characterizing negotiations with the district.
The union still needs to formally vote on the proposed contract but school board members voted to accept the terms.
