Bruce Rauner says the focus on the Medicaid problems at a company once owned by his investment firm is a distraction.

The company, APS Healthcare, paid $13 million to settle claims that it defrauded Georgia’s Medicaid program during the time Rauner’s firm owned it. But like other scandals involving his former firm, Rauner claims he and others working for him weren’t involved.

“This is all a distraction,” Rauner said. “This is an old story that they’re dredging up. This has been checked and verified. That company found wrongdoing and dealt with it, very different from me and my firm.”

Gov. Pat Quinn’s campaign says what happened at APS amounts to Medicaid fraud, though the company admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement.
