The head of St. John’s Hospital’s women and children’s center has been arrested, accused of stealing more than $500,000.

A news release from Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser says Margaret Curtin is being held in the Sangamon County Jail on $1 million bond.

The release says the St. John’s management team noticed financial irregularities related to “certain hospital operations,” but didn’t elaborate further. Additional charges are possible against Curtin, but for now she faces one count of Theft over $500,000.

Milhiser says the total amount is likely closer to $700,000.

“This case is still under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” said Milhiser.
