Traffic weary Springfield residents have had little reprieve — first the construction on I-55 southbound, then the bike lanes on Second Street.
It’s about to get worse.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says a northbound lane on I-55 will be closed starting on Monday to work on the northbound interstate entrance ramp at Stevenson Drive. It’s the same project going on southbound that, so far, has resulted in dozens of accidents and multiple minor injuries. IDOT says the project should be finished by early next month, weather permitting.
Signs and detours will be posted. IDOT suggests you follow them.
