Five Lanphier High School students were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after the bus they were on was rear ended by a van.

Police say the driver of a Chevy Express work van was distracted and couldn’t stop in time before it hit the bus at around 8:30 near 9th and Carpenter.

“One of our district administrators is on the scene,” said district spokeswoman Bree Hankins. “He [was also at] the hospital earlier and we’ve been in contact with the parents. We’re keeping track of how they’re doing.”

The students’ conditions weren’t immediately known. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital as a precaution; the van driver was cited for failure to yield. He wasn’t injured.
