Two Springfield healthcare providers at the center of a sudden merger proposal have both issued statements about the future of that idea.

Springfield Clinic representatives says a “decisive” board decision made Friday confirms that the privately-owned clinic has no interest in merging with Hospital Sisters Health System, parent company of St. John’s Hospital. The Clinic says the offer was unsolicited.

A statement from HSHS says the move would have “positioned both organizations to better coordinate the delivery of healthcare across the region.”

Neither entity would comment beyond prepared statements.
