State Rep. Raymond Poe (R-Springfield) says he’ll undergo a stem cell transplant at the end of this month to battle a blood disease.
Poe was this year diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, or MDS, which has resulted in a low red blood cell count. He’s been receiving blood transfusions to offset that in recent months.
Poe says other state representatives, such as Rich Brauer, Bill Mitchell and others, will take care of his districts’ business while he’s away. Poe’s district covers much of the south and west sides of Springfield, as well as portions of southern and western Sangamon County.
