Two sources familiar with the decision says a chemical company has chosen a site near Tuscola over an Iowa location to build a $1.4 billion fertilizer plant. Cronus Chemicals will employ 175 people and create 2,000 construction jobs while it’s being built.
Construction is due to begin in the spring. The sources said Cronus is also expected to open a new U.S. headquarters in Chicago that will employ 25. Cronus considered building the plant in Mitchell County, Iowa.
The state of Illinois offered incentives to Cronus, but details were not available.
