The Sangamon County Department of Public Health has a new tool to bring healthcare to outlying areas.
Director Jim Stone and members of the Sangamon County Board unveiled a mobile clinic to provide immunizations and physicals to those who find it hard to make it to a clinic.
“We are going to roll it out this fall doing flu shots in specific areas that really don’t have medical services,” says Stone. “Then we are going survey communities around the rest of Sangamon County.”
Funds for the converted RV were provided by federal rural healthcare grants and support from the SIU School of Medicine. Stone says an additional unit could be added in the future.
