There has been no shortage of misrepresentations and half-thruths told during this campaign – so much so that even the Libertarian candidate is complaining.
Chad Grimm says Republicans are putting out direct mail and robo-calls that try to smear him in the eyes of conservative voters who are unhappy with Bruce Rauner and are considering him as an option.
He says they took his position of being against the war on drugs and turned it into: He’s for legalizing heroin.
“Drugs are a disease. It’s an ailment, and it should be treated as a disease. We shouldn’t take somebody that has a disease and put ‘em in jail, necessarily. We should examine different ways how we can get those folks help,” he said.
Grimm is the only pro-life candidate in the race; the attacks have stated that the Libertarian Party is for abortion on demand. Grimm says that isn’t true; he says Libertarians are divided on the issue.
Grimm also specified that he is personally not for term limits, but he believes the question should be put to a vote, and if the voters want it, he will support it. He’s also for same-sex marriage (and actually prefer that government get out of the business of sanctioning personal relationships), but he says if you’re a single-issue anti-abortion voter, that shouldn’t matter.
