The Springfield High School Marching Band was one of several units marching in Tuesday’s Veterans’ Day Parade.
Although it was a day off from school, dozens of kids lined Capitol Avenue waving flags and paying tribute to current and former service members.
Alderman Joe McMenamin, himself a veteran, marched and says he hopes the younger generation continues to thank those who have worn the uniform.
“Hopefully they know. We need continue to let them know every Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day every year,” says McMenamin. “Keep the memories going, we’ve got to.”
The federal holiday is marked for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when World War One was ended.
