One of these things is not like the others.

A political newcomer joins four better-known Springfield residents in the race for mayor. The SJ-R reports 33-year-old Samuel Johnson made an announcement Tuesday outside the Municipal Center and said it’s time for someone new and different … and for truth and reality. The paper reports Johnson describes himself as a community leader and activist.

The other candidates are city treasurer Jim Langfelder, county auditor Paul Palazzolo, and alderman Gail Simpson – and also incumbent mayor Mike Houston.

If five candidates file, the city would hold a primary election in February.
