Authorities have arrested a man they say led police on a series of chases in stolen cars and continued to flee even after being shot in the face.

The Lake County sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Ronald Q. Mass, 18, of Ingleside. He has not yet been charged. The sheriff’s office says in a news release that the first chase began Thursday night when officers in Round Lake spotted a stolen Ford sedan.

Over the next 2.5 hours, Mass got into several accidents, including two head-on collisions, and rammed a squad car. Several people were injured.

Authorities say a Round Lake Heights officer opened fire, striking him in the cheek, but Mass continued to flee. Sheriff’s deputies arrested him at a ranch.
