At least three people are running for alderman in Springfield’s Ward 10.

Phil Chiles, Grant Hammer and Ralph Hanauer each filed for the seat left vacant last week by incumbent Tim Griffin, who’s expected to become the next city council coordinator. Chiles says infrastructure is his main concern — can the city’s road system keep up with current growth?

“We sort of put the cart before the horse in a lot of cases,” Chiles says. “We built subdivisions and spread the outlying areas of the city out, but we haven’t provided the infrastructure to go along with it.”

Chiles says he doesn’t have specific plans to remedy the problem yet, but he says the city’s existing infrastructure and sewer plans are a good start.
