For some of our military men and women, coming home can be more stressful than serving. Evidence: a veterans’ suicide rate in the U.S. Of 22 per day.
“On top of the fact that you’re in a war zone,” says State Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park), “you also have to deal with the pressures going on at home and not being able to help or fix it. And you may come home to a life devastated.”
Cullerton is a sponsor of a resolution setting up a “veterans’ suicide task force” to address the needs of our veterans, including the mental health needs.
Cullerton served in the Army in the early 90s but did not go to Desert Storm.
HJR 91 has passed both chambers.
