After two decades in office, Neil Williamson is heading into retirement and his replacement, Wes Barr says Williamson has provided him some useful advice.

Barr says he wants to put his own stamp on the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department.

“We’ve met, we’ve talked. He offered advice” says Barr. “It will be a good turnover.”

Last week, Barr announced that Captain Joe Roesch, who is head of the detective bureau, will be his second-in-command. Former Undersheriff Jack Campbell is returning to his previous rank of Lieutenant and for now, will run the sheriff’s administration division.

Barr was sworn in Monday.
