Alex Degman takes a few minutes to thank his direct competitor for taking time to remember Bob Murray, the long-time fixture in central Illinois media who died in February 2014.

People sometimes wonder why I (Alex) haven’t moved on from Springfield… you know the general attitude people in Chicago have toward Springfield, why would I stay for so long? Well, quite simply, the sense of community in Springfield is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The media community here is tight knit, although competitive. It sucks you in. That’s why you see so many Springfield radio people stick around as long as they do. The sense of community in other facets is amazing too.

Every once in a while we need to step back and remember we’re all in this together. Jim Leach proved that in this week’s Illinois Times column remembering Bob Murray.

Thank you.
