Baseball will soon be coming to another Springfield middle school.

The District-186 Board okayed baseball being an option at Franklin Middle School, with fundraising taking care of most of the financial and uniform needs.

But the district is covering about $1,500 in transportation costs to away games and practices.  Board member Donna Moore says that’s the only thing that concerns her.

“Already, we are in a deficit for transportation,” says Moore.  “I know it’s only $1,500, but it just kind of bothers me.”

District officials say they’re looking into how the other middle school baseball program — a coop between Ball Charter and Lincoln Magnet Schools — is paid for.

A Franklin teacher has already agreed to be the coach.
