This time, the vote was unanimous.
The Springfield Public School Board Monday night voted 7-0 to hire Joby Crum as Springfield High School head Boys Basketball Coach.
Two weeks ago, the board did not hire Crum, stating concerns with the hiring process, and that the outgoing principal of SHS had too much say in the hiring process. This time, District 186 Board president Adam Lopez says, the incoming SHS principal had input, and the board was okay with it.
Crum accepted the job, knowing he’s coaching a summer girls basketball team through July, coupled with being able to have coaching time with the boys team starting in June, leaving little time to prepare for the Boys Basketball season, but he’s fine with it.
“When kind of looking at the future and what I wanted to do, I wanted to make sure all my ducks were in a row going in,” says Crum. “It’s been a longer process than I would prefer, but it took me almost a whole year to get my wife to go out with me when we were dating. So, what’s another board meeting?”
