An hour worth of discussion last week turned into virtually none at all this week when the Springfield City Council approved giving $30,000 to the Lincoln Land Charity Championship.

That’s the new PGA Web.com Tour event coming to town in July.  The vote was eight-to-two, with Mayor Jim Langfelder casting a vote, and with one of those most concerned with the use of city funds for such an event – Alderman and Illinois Tourism Director Cory Jobe – absent.

Jobe was concerned about how the spending of the money would set a precedent and cause every special event to come to the city looking for money.

Aldermen Joe McMenamin and Doris Turner cast the “no” votes on the proposal, after an attempt to lessen the amount failed.
