After many months of planning the Lincoln Land Charity Championship officially teed off Thursday morning at the Panther Creek Country Club right here in Springfield. The event features a full field of 156 golfers. Tournament Director, Alex McCarty, on who we’ll be seeing out there this weekend.

“We have some of the top golfers on the Web.com tour. We actually have quite a few from the Top 25,” says McCarty. “Mike Small from the University of Illinois is playing,” as well as some of the top tour money winners, says McCarty.

“Web.com tour events around the country usually average between 20,000 people to some of the larger events begin closer to 35,000 to 40,000 throughout the week,” says McCarty. “We’re hoping to get as many there as possible. Ticket sales have picked up in the last couple weeks. Tickets are available at the gate as well.”

The festivities began Wednesday with some of the tour members giving lessons to young golfers ages 8-16. The lessons were free of charge.
