Ryan Held left the halls of Sacred Heard Griffin High School in 2014. Now he’s returning, but this time as an Olympic gold medalist.
Sacred Heart Griffin High School is having some welcome home festivities for Held later Fridat. Director of Student Marketing and Communications for SHG, Taylor Fishburn, explains.
“He’s going to come to SHG and visit with our students, which is awesome,” says Taylor Fishburn SHG Director of Student Marketing and Communications. “But the official big ceremonies…will begin at 5:30. We’re calling it a motorcade. He’s going to leave from the Fire Station on Monroe.
From there, the truck will take Held down Washington Street to the east SHG campus before back to the west campus. Then people will have the chance to get a picture and an autograph from Held before the football game. Held will also be honored at halftime of the game.
“At Halftime, I believe, the Governor’s coming, the mayor…we’re calling it an extended halftime,” says Fishburn.
Along with being honored at halftime, Held as also requested to sit in the student section for the game against Decatur MacArthur.
If you can’t make it out to see Ryan Held tonight at the SHG football game, don’t worry. Held will also be returning to the place where he took his first swim lesson Saturday. The YMCA on West Iles will be holding a welcome home ceremony for him starting at 12:30.
