You can’t talk about football – or many other sports – without the subject turning to concussions.

Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka says while he helped start the assistance and awareness group Gridiron Greats, it’s not really his responsibility to do something …

“The responsibility falls on the National Football League, and it always will,” Ditka told the City Club of Chicago. “My dad told me, you have obligations and responsibilities to do the right thing. It’s time they did the right thing, and quit bitching about it.”

After his audience applauded, Ditka quipped, “I’m sure I’ll make a lot of friends in New York.”

The story of concussions is still unfolding, with one of Ditka’s Super Bowl champions, Dave Duerson, committing suicide following concussion-induced CTE. Duerson, who shot himself in the stomach, asked that his brain be donated to research.
