Last Thursday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Widetrack Drive. The driver of the car, Jason W. Padgett, 44, of Tallula, was found to have a revoked driver’s license. Padgett admitted to Deputies he had weapons in the car and he did not possess a FOID card. Padgett was placed in handcuffs until Deputies could determine what he had in his possession. The vehicle was searched and the following items were discovered:
1. .22 caliber Savage rifle
2. .22 caliber Mossberg rifle
3. .22 caliber Remington rifle
4. 20 gauge Savage shotgun
5. 12 gauge Lucia Franchi shotgun with serial number defaced
6. Taser
7. Various ammunition for each of the weapons
Padgett was then placed under arrest for:
1. Unlawful Use of a Weapon (overall length) & (in vehicle)
2. Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon
3. Defacing Identification Marks on a Firearm
4. Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
5. Possession of Firearms – No FOID
6. Possession of Ammunition – No FOID
7. Driving on a Revoked DL and multiple traffic citations
He was transported to the Sangamon County Jail and his bond was set at $200,000. He remains in custody.
