Around 1am today Sangamon County Deputies were called to Toronto Road and North Lake road on a report of a submerged vehicle.
After a 35 minute search of the area by 8 law enforcement agencies a 2005 Chevy Tahoe was located partially submerged in a pond.
A 19 year old man had escaped the vehicle but an 18 year old man was found still partially in the SUV and was unresponsive. He was taken to HSHS St. Johns with life threatening injuries
The initial investigation indicates the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes of Toronto Rd. and left the roadway. The vehicle traveled approximately 2000 feet, through a field, before going into the pond.
The accident remains under investigation.
