A random traffic stop in Springfield led to the eventual arrest of two men and the recovery of over 13 modern weapons and a cache of antique and collectible firearms reported stolen from a Cantrell residence.

On April 13th sheriffs deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle at the intersection of Clear Lake and Cantrell Aves.

The driver drove away and police later found his abandoned vehicle and inside was a shotgun reported stolen from the April 11th burglary.

The driver of the vehicle, 34 year old Thomas Hunter of Springfield was located, arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 27 year old Jacob Miller of Rochester who is now also facing a variety of burglary and weapons charges.

To date, 22 stolen firearms have been recovered.

Both men are being held in Sangamon County Jail.
