Republicans are helping publicize a state audit’s findings about the covid situation at the La Salle veterans’ home, where 36 residents died. It’s ironic, because the governor campaigned on the Legionnaires’ disease crisis at another veterans’ facility.

State Rep. Randy Frese (pictured)  (R-Paloma), whose district includes the veterans’ home in Quincy, quotes Gov. JB Pritzker before he was elected.

“‘It is a shameful neglect of our veterans who we should be standing up for every single day,’ end quote.

“He promised that he would do the best job protecting our veterans. Did he fulfill that promise to Illinois veterans and their families? This audit says no.”

Republicans are seizing upon the point that it took eleven days for the Illinois Department of Public Health to make a site visit. The governor has said they waited until it was safe.
