For the first time in two years there was a full Memorial Day program Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, hosted in part by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The ceremony was marked by a wreath-laying ceremony, speeches, a moment of silence, and the playing of Taps.
Congressman Rodney Davis was among the day’s speakers. Sergeant Fritz Pfister, U.S. Air Force, was the keynote speaker.
Davis called on all Americans to be worthy of the sacrifices made for the cause of freedom, after reflecting on his nine years in office:
“I’ve had some interesting times,” David said, “being able to travel to areas outside of the United States to see how much and in how many different countries and their citizens appreciate the sacrifices of our American heroes.”
