A gun related tragedy in Montgomery County.
This morning around 3:14 sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting in Witt Township
The bodies of 38 year old Trista Casey of Witt and 40 year old Michael Cunningham of Litchfield were found inside a residence. Police says they were both shot multiple times.
Deputies later identified Trista Casey’s ex-husband, 40 year old Matthew Casey of Nokomis, as a person of interest.
A search warrant was obtained for Matthew Casey’s residence. Early this morning Matthew Casey was located inside the garage at the home with a fatal, self-inflicted, gunshot wound.
The Hillsboro Police Department, Nokomis Police Department, the ILEAS Response Team, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office assisted with the investigation.
