Springfield alderman ok’d a tentative deal with Chatham to forgo legal wrangling with the village agreeing to pay to the city a half-million dollars for terminating its contract with Springfield’s utility.
Mayor Mike Houston says the agreement is reasonable and says both the city and Chatham can avoid “further legal action”.
The village of Chatham will receive a 99-year lease on ground owned by the city of Springfield where its new water pump station sits; it will cost 200,000.
“The settlement is a reasonable and prudent approach for the City and Village to avoid both the risk and cost of further legal action,” the mayor said via press release.
