Organizers of the Memorial Health golf tournament at Panther Creek next month predict a record crowd. Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau director Scott Dahl shares the enthusiasm,

“For us, this is a game changer,” Dahl told aldermen Tuesday, “because when we are talking about destination marketing, we are talking about putting the word out, asking our visitors to come in.

Not only does it have free shuttles, but free entry. We’re walkable, we’re affordable. All of the free sites that we have, you combine it into that — this $25,000 can really, really make the difference in us having record crowds at the Memorial Health Championship and throughout the city of Springfield as well.”

The city council Tuesday agreed to that $25,000 sponsorship. The vote was 10-0-1, with Ald, Joe McMenamin, concerned about the number of requests over the years.
