A heat wave is anticipated across central Illinois this week. AAA is warning motorists to be careful while driving in extreme heat.

Nothing ruins a summer trip faster than a flat tire, overheated cooling system or battery that quits working on a hot summer day that’s why it is important to perform basic safety checks before you get on the road.

AAA recommends drivers address five key areas to help their vehicle safely survive high summer temperatures:

Heat Can Zap the Life from Batteries: Make sure the battery is fully charged and the terminals are clean.

Keep your Engine Cool: check for worn belts and hoses.
and replace worn parts.

Remember Cars Need Fluids during Extreme Heat Too

Avoid Excessive Heat Where the Rubber Meets the Road: check that tire pressure.

Cool Passengers are Happy Passengers: make sure your AC is in good order.
