Aside from disagreement over how many hotel rooms can be stripped out of downtown Springfield in the Wyndham Hotel apartment proposal, there are the matters of a bank foreclosure on the owners and more than $1 million debt to CWLP.
How about that, Mayor Langfelder?
“We had an executive session meeting on the status, so we informed the council members of that, and actually the city put a lien on the property so we could protect our position. The thought process is it’s a work-out situation. When the sale takes place, that will be taken care of.”
So the mayor and aldermen have been aware of the foreclosure and the CWLP debt?
“Yes. On the debt to CWLP, they have made some payments, but everybody knew that as far as council members. Like I said it was discussed in executive session.”
The task now is to see if the developers can get by with fewer hotel rooms converted to apartments – and if one of the council members who voted No on Tuesday will move to reconsider Tuesday’s vote.
