Makers and distributors of opioids have reached a national $26 billion settlement, with up to $760 million of that going to Illinois. Drugmaker Johnson and Johnson and distributors McKesson, Cardinal, and AmerisourceBergen.
Prevention and treatment programs will benefit from the money. “I’ll sign an executive order ensuring the dollars go exactly where they should, fueling a whole-of-government approach,” said Gov. JB Pritzker, “toward getting help in the hands of those who need it most.
“This executive order establishes an Office of Opioid Settlement Administration and cements a framework for making the best use of these new resources.”
That program will be under the Illinois Department of Human Services.
