A ten-year tax abatement for the Legacy Pointe sports complex, planned for South MacArthur Boulevard near Scheels, passed the District 186 school board on a 4-3 vote Monday.

Superintendent Jennifer Gill says the project is complicated.

“There is a part of our contract that basically says if things are not underway within a calendar year and they don’t have everything ready to go, then it’s null and void. I think that helps the board. I just think it’s some of the indecision about when it’s going to start and if it’s completely funded that weighs heavily on some of our board members”

The school district will be able to use the sports fields at a half-price rate.

The three No votes came from board members Erica Austin, Buffy Lael-Wolf, and Micah Miller.
