As the election is just weeks away, the big story in Illinois seems to be a law that was passed almost two years ago – and that still doesn’t take effect for another three months. It’s the elimination of cash bail.

Gov. JB Pritzker says cash bail is unfair, but his opponents have been aggressive about burning their message in. Pritzker says there’s one reason why:

“Well, they’re lying,” he said. “The Safe-T Act is designed to keep murderers, rapists, and domestic abusers in jail,” as opposed to keeping, in a description Team Pritzker has repeated, an indigent mother detained for months for shoplifting diapers.
