Illinois House Republicans say the Safe-T Act will be so costly that local governments will turn to raising property taxes to generate the money to pay for it. House Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) says Gov, JB Pritzker should go back to law school, rather than pass bad bills and say he’ll fix them later.
“There’s going to be so many bad actors that are not going to be subject to bond hearings or detention hearings, based on the law he has created – something that can’t be enforced!” said Durkin during an online news conference Wednesday. “We talk about non-detainable offenses, which he says doesn’t exist. Well, he created the whole concept of a non-detainable offense. The only way you can hold somebody for an arson or robbery is show that they are a flight risk”
The law, which the Pritzker administration denies will lead to tax increases, takes effect in the New Year.
