Sangamon County has upgraded its Winter Weather Emergency to a Level 2. Officials declared an emergency at Level 1 late Saturday.
A level 2 indicates that travel on county highways is strongly discouraged. County administrator Brian McFadden noted, via news release, that emergency vehicles might not be able to respond in a timely manner should drivers get stuck.
No roads are shut down at this time, but McFadden says some roads may be impassable due to the elements.
Several area municipalities have declared snow emergencies starting tomorrow night including Springfield, Jerome, Sherman, Auburn, New Berlin, RivertonĀ and Mt. Pulaski. Any vehicles parked along snow emergency routes could be towed.
