If the number of arrests for impaired driving made by Springfield Police this past holiday season is any indication, some people are still not getting the message.

“We would hope it would have gone down with increased enforcement and IDOT’s public information campaign, but that doesn’t seem to be the case” says Springfield Police Sergeant Charles Kean.

He says his department arrested 21 drivers for DUI, the same number as last holiday season.  Kean says despite advance warning of safety checkpoints, too many drivers are getting behind the wheel after drinking.  He says fortunately, there were no serious injuries caused by a drunk driver.
